Precise science becomes an industrial reality

From a research award to a camera that examines the world beneath the surface.

We warmly congratulate Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Schuth from Trier, University of Applied Sciences on receiving the 2025 Transfer Award from the hlb Association and DIfHE.

His long-standing work in optical measurement technology and non-destructive testing has shaped not only the academic community, but also laid the groundwork for practical industrial applications. As head of Technikum for Optical Measurement at Trier, University of Apllied Sciences, Prof. Schuth created an environment where research doesn’t stop at the lab door, but continues into real-world implementation.

One outstanding example of this successful technology transfer is his close collaboration with our co-founder Dr. Christopher Petry. As part of a cooperative PhD project, Prof. Schuth not only supervised the academic research — he actively encouraged him to take the technology beyond academia.

In TENTA VISION ‘s early startup phase, his support made all the difference: By giving us access to the laser lab and the technical infrastructure of the OGKB, he enabled our first steps towards real-world application — scientifically grounded and focused on practical needs.

Interferometry Meets Industry

From Automotive to Modern Manufacturing

Building on this foundation, Dr. Petry advanced the research further by adapting the sensitive method for reliable use in harsh industrial environments with a globally unique sensor design. The result was Camera Tomography and a patented system that makes elastic material deformations visible at the nanometer to micrometer scale. What used to remain hidden can now be seen in real time: Subtle material responses that indicate potential weak points — long before any failure occurs. Our technology combines laser-based deformation imaging with intelligent software analysis resulting in a so far unmatched precision and speed.

What began as a scientific curiosity has since evolved into a proven solution in industrial quality assurance —originating from a research-strong university of applied sciences. Our path would not have been possible without the support, trust, and scientific foresight of Prof. Schuth.

For that, we say: thank you.
